Twelve years have passed since The Rite of Spring, her last solo. Now, the choreographer once again feels impelled to an inevitable confrontation with herself.
With the title O Salvado (Everything she managed to save), this show is born out of an open question, an undiscovered intention. It’s not a formal search for new languages, but the continuity of a shared struggle.
Like a shipwreck survivor, she asks herself: what can you salvage from the catastrophe? What remains after the storm? What can still preserve an existence of seven decades? What remains attached to the body and to time, and what can finally be detached to become matter, memory, presence? What hasn’t died in her yet? And what has she finally managed to free herself from?
What body is this now? What stories are left to tell? Everything suspended. Everything in the air. Everything anchored in memory.
You hear your favourite songs. Others you’ve never heard. And perhaps, in the midst of it all, you hear your own voice.
Over the course of a year and six artist residencies, she has been weaving a path that is now revealed in a topography of time – a map of gestures, images, traces and words that traces the path. A record that not only archives what was, but also questions what is yet to come. The time of remembering and forgetting intertwine, complement each other and fight against each other. The time that is projected into the future advances unceasingly. And it is from this matter – from this urgency to exist between what is remembered and what is lost, between what was and what could still be – that the need to reinvent oneself is born.
